The Dalmatian is a breed of dog with a distinctive white coat with either black or liver spots, and often a black mask. The original purpose of the breed was to run ahead of horse-drawn carriages to keep horses from being startled by unfamiliar sights or sounds. In addition to its unique coat, the Dalmatian is noted for its high energy level, intelligence and loyalty.
